We can all make a gin and tonic by now, right? So how do you cheer up this drink even more? By covering the glass with braided cucumber! And the nice thing about this is that you can do this well in advance. Because once “stuck” in the glass you can cover it with foil and put it in the fridge. Complicated to make this gin and tonic with cucumber? Well, the braiding is actually done that way.
Gin tonic with cucumber
Do you really want to put a showstopper on the table and impress your friends during a party? Then make a few glasses in advance and put them in the fridge. Of course there is plenty to vary with this gin tonic with cucumber. You can choose various types of gin, but the syrup or the tonic also has plenty of variants!
If you are not a fan of lime, or if you prefer to buy lemon, that is of course also possible. You can just buy the mint syrup in the supermarket. But making it yourself is also an option. Then it is just a basic syrup of 200 grams of sugar, 6 sprigs of mint, 300 ml of water, bring to the boil and let it reduce a bit. Strain through a fine sieve and let cool.

Ingredients:
- 100 ml gin
- 1 cucumber
- 2 el mint syrup
- 1 lime
- 200 ml tonic
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Wash the cucumber and with a peeler you peel 3 to 4 strips over the entire length. Turn the cucumber a quarter turn and repeat, do this 2 more times, then you're all around the cucumber and you have 10-12 long bars.
- Place 5 strips lengthwise on a cutting board and braid one strip alternately over and under these strips. Repeat until you have one large elongated braided "net". Cut the sides neatly straight and the entire net through the middle. Gently lift and place in the glass.
- Fill the glasses with ice cubes and thread 2 strips onto a skewer as an extra decoration. (Is therefore optional).
- Fill each glass with 50 ml gin, a tbsp mint syrup, juice of half a lime and 100 ml tonic.
- Cheers!
