The inside out rolls, the calfornia hand rolls, we will leave these for what they are for a while. Let's start with this basic homemade sushi recipe. And that is not at all as complicated as it seems. You can vary so much with the ingredients you want to use. My advice is that you should definitely go for whole fresh fish. Of course we eat it raw and then you don't want fish that has been in the supermarket for days. So go to your fishmonger and get fresh fish (preferably MSC quality mark). Nowadays you can buy a starter set sushi kit in every supermarket. It contains everything you need to make your own sushi, such as a bamboo mat, nori sheets (seaweed), rice vinegar, sugar and salt. Not that I'm too lazy to write it out, but it just differs per brand how you prepare it. And then I just follow the steps on the packaging. Making sushi is just a lot of fun to do!

Basic recipe homemade sushi
I ordered the fish in this recipe from Crisp, an online grocery supplier. They have beautiful fresh products of wonderful quality. This is because I partnered with them for some recipe development. We have enjoyed it here at home because we like to eat it. So I will definitely be working on other sushi recipes that I will share with you here as well.

Basic recipe homemade sushi

- 200 gram fresh salmon
- 200 gram fresh tuna
- 6 surimi sticks - (crab sticks)
- ½ cucumber
- 1 avocado
- ½ can of tuna
- 350 gram Sushi rice
- nori sheets
From the pantry:
- 2 el mayonnaise
- sesame seeds
- soy sauce
- wasabi mayonnaise
- 6 el rice vinegar
- 4 tl sugar
- 2 tl salt
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- We make the rice first, according to the package. The preparation differs per brand.
- Heat the rice vinegar, sugar and salt in a saucepan and stir until dissolved. When the sushi is ready to scoop into a dish or bowl, add this mixture and gently stir it into the rice. Blow the rice cool, you cannot roll with warm rice.
- Cut the fish, cucumber, and avocado into strips.
- Mix half a can of tuna with the mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon wasabi mayonnasia and some sesame seeds in a small bowl.
- Use the rolling mat to roll the sushi. Lay a nori sheet shiny side down. Wet your fingers so that the rice doesn't stick to your fingers and put a layer on the nori sheet. Add some fish and cucumber and roll up. You can wet the end a little so that it sticks nicely.
- Repeat in different combinations with all your fish and cucumber and avocado. You will notice after a few rolls that it is very easy.
- Rinse a very sharp knife under the hot tap and cut the sushi into even thickness.
- Serve with some wasabi mayo, soy sauce, and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.
