Focaccia is an Italian flat bread originally from the Liguria region. It is often considered a kind of pizza, but without toppings. Focaccia is a versatile and flavorful bread that is perfect as a side dish or snack.
The traditional focaccia recipe consists of flour, water, olive oil, salt and yeast. The dough is kneaded, rolled into a flat shape and then rubbed with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt and spices. Focaccia can also be topped with tomatoes, onions, cheese, olives and other ingredients of your choice.
Focaccia is relatively easy to make and is perfect for home bakers looking for a new challenge.
Nowadays there are many variants possible with and without olives or sun-dried tomatoes, but my favorite remains this focaccia recipe foccacia with rosemary and garlic.
