Healthy carrot cake bliss balls

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Eating healthier, a healthier lifestyle, that's all nice and nice of course. But I'm not made for 24/7 in a straitjacket. There comes a time when I feel like something sweet or a snack. And then my daughter's candy box is suddenly very tempting. Yet that is not necessary! Making a bliss ball recipe has been on my to-cook list for a while. This was the perfect time to get started with that. The balls are really ideal. You can make a lot of variation in it. bliss balls coconut healthy

Nice long shelf life in the fridge.

As for taste, color, and ingredients. This time we're going for healthy carrot cake bliss balls, these look a bit like a carrot cake and who doesn't like that?! If you scour the internet and look at other recipes, you will see that in many balls there are recurring ingredients. So it's a bit of mixing and matching with herbs by feel and what you like.

Healthy carrot cake bliss balls

Making a bliss ball recipe is super easy! You just need a food processor. I've been on the web for a while to find out where they come from. After a bit of research it seems that they have their origin during the Second World War. Flour was difficult to supply and people turned to oatmeal flakes. The origin is in Denmark/Sweden. And they got the beautiful name “havregrynskugle”. Small balls consisting of oatmeal flakes, sugar, cocoa, butter and coconut chips.

A sweet taste without a lot of sugar in the ball.

Carrot cake bliss balls, not necessarily the healthiest treat, have now been given a healthier twist at Heerlijke Happen. These tasty variations are a real treat for lovers of responsible snacks. The big advantage is their long shelf life in the refrigerator, where they stay fresh for at least 1 to 2 weeks. It is also useful that you can freeze them perfectly for later enjoyment, so you always have a healthy snack at hand.

Always nice to stock up!

Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

Ingredients:

  • 125 gr finely chopped carrots
  • 100 gr oatmeal flakes
  • 70 gr pecans
  • 30 gr coconut flakes
  • 6 dates without pit
  • 60 gr nut butter - (cashew / pistachio / almond )
  • 1 tl cinnamon powder
  • ½ tl nutmeg
  • 4 el shredded coconut

Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.

And this is how you make it:

  • Grate the carrots (about 6 small ones) and put them in your food processor, turn until you have small shreds. Take them out and put them in a bowl.
  • Now put the coconut flakes, pecan nuts in the food processor and turn until you get grains. Then add the oats and dates and turn again until you have small grains.
  • Then add the nut butter, nutmeg, cinnamon powder, and carrots and turn it into a kind of dough ball.
  • Sprinkle the grated coconut on a bowl.
  • With your hands you form balls about the size of a bitterbal and roll them through the grater.
  • Delicious bites!
If the dough is too dry for your liking, add a tablespoon of coconut oil to make it a bit smoother.
The balls can be kept in the fridge for up to two weeks, you can also freeze them.
