Fancy a nice hot breakfast? One that completely fits into the autumn atmosphere? Then make these delicious autumnal pumpkin cinnamon rolls. These sandwiches were not successful in one go. For attempt number 1, I bought the croissant dough with chocolate bars. Unfortunately, that turned out to be too dominant a taste. It was also dark chocolate and in my enthusiasm I had crammed all the sticks between the dough. Not a good idea, but hey, trying and failing is better than not trying at all. Baking cinnamon rolls.
It is a super easy recipe that anyone can make. Definitely fun to make with your child, they can follow the steps with you. Add a stool for the oven and watch the dough rise in the bowl.
Autumn pumpkin cinnamon rolls
When we talk about an “old” vegetable, the pumpkin is definitely one! They have been cultivated in Central and South America for over thousands of years before Christ. Only after all the explorations in that direction were they brought to Europe in the 16th century. It is also a great no-waste product because you can roast and eat the seeds. The same goes for the leaves of this fruit, which is done less here, but if you grow them yourself, you don't have to throw them away.
The only pumpkin you should not eat is the gourd. This one is for decoration only. You see more and more that we also carve pumpkins in the Netherlands around Halloween. This is also a fun activity to do with your kids. My daughter then draws the faces on the pumpkin, which we then hollow out and insert a candle. Baking cinnamon rolls

- 1 role croissant dough - (e.g. Danerol)
- 150 gr pumpkin puree
- 75 gr light caster sugar
- 1 el gingerbread spices
For the frosting you will need:
- 150 gr Philadelphia cream cheese
- 125 gr powdered sugar
- 2 el melted butter
- milk (as required, see recipe)
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Let's make the pumpkin puree first. Add the 150 grams of pumpkin cubes and cook them until they are soft. About 15 to 20 minutes. Drain and mash them to a puree.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
- Take a piece of aluminum foil and roll out the croissant dough on it. Spread with the cooled pumpkin puree. Sprinkle the spices and sugar on top and then carefully roll it up. With a very sharp knife cut the roll into 6 thin slices. (The dough expands considerably in the oven)
- Line an oven dish with baking paper and spread with a layer of butter. Place the rolls in it and put in the oven for a minute or 20/25 until the edges are a nice golden brown colour.
- To make the frosting, take a large bowl with it. Add all the ingredients for the frosting and beat until smooth. If it's too thick for you, add some milk.
- Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a while. Then spread the frosting on top and serve.
