Once again a wonderful classic that should not be missing on my site. You have also been making this recipe in your own way for years. With memories of the past when your father or mother served you a plate and you enjoyed it. Dutch kale with sausage is also a favorite here at home. I can still remember that my mother used to put money aside to buy sausage from the butcher. Neatly in the bag, I placed the sausage on the counter with the change, not taking into account the fact that we had 2 cats. Who then ate the sausage heavily while I went outside to play. I was able to quickly get a new one for dinner, and I never made that mistake again! A delicious kale stew recipe.

The “secret” ingredient in this kale is mustard! Add two scoops when mashing. That gives extra flavor to your kale, and of course also a tasty crunch with the sausage. I always serve vinegar with kale instead of gravy.

That is a trick from the old days, when meat was really something special and meat was not eaten every day. To give potatoes extra flavor, some vinegar was added. You have to like acid, that's for sure.

Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.

And this is how you make it:

  • Fry the bacon in a frying pan and let it drain in a colander. Save the bacon fat.
  • Place the potatoes and kale in a large pan with a pinch of salt and bring to the boil. Let it cook for 20 minutes.
  • Place the smoked sausage in a pan with boiling water, but do not let it boil any further, just heat it gently on the lowest burner until the kale is ready.
  • Drain the kale and put it back in the pan, add the bacon, 2 tbsp bacon fat, the milk, mustard and some pepper. Just a bit of pounding and then you can sit at the table!
  • Delicious bites!
