Homemade spicy apple compote

Homemade spicy apple compote: this is how you make it

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

The apples fell from the trees early this year. And if all of a sudden they all fall then you definitely have to do something with them. My cupboards are full of jars and glasses so filling them with them was a smart move. I have been making my own jams and compote with my own pears for years. A homemade spicy apple compote was only missing. A recipe apple compote (without sugar).

Homemade spicy apple compote

In any case, I think it's better to make your own because you can decide for yourself which spices you use. And the amount of sugar too! Supermarket compote is often too sweet and has too little character. The cardamom and cinnamon definitely give this compote a lot of flavor!

Homemade spicy apple compote

Compote is different from applesauce. There are more pieces of apple in the compote. With the autumn that is coming again with rapid steps, I thought cinnamon also a logical addition. That goes perfectly with apple and is also very healthy! This homemade spicy apple compote will keep well in your fridge for several weeks.

Those little green seeds in the picture are cardamom. Those are seeds, and they come from the ginger family. Did you know that chewing cardamom gives you fresh breath? A natural mouth freshener!

Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

What would this compote go well with? Well try this one:

Like, for example, with this beef mustard stew with silver onions.

Or serve it with this rotisserie chicken with potatoeseg.

And with a cheese board, of course.

First time making apple compote from the apples from the apple tree on the balcony.
Delicious and easy recipe! Thanks for sharing.
Now, in addition to the sun-dried tomatoes, chili sauce and pickles, we also have apple compote from the “garden” 😉
