We love pizzas here at home, so they are regularly on the table. How fun is it to make the dough yourself and bake it in your oven. In this blog I make a pizza in a Pizzaiolo, which is a special pizza oven. A pizzaiolo is an Italian word for a pizza maker. I have a recipe for you for a delicious pizza dough. Get started with this homemade pizza with the Pizzaiolo oven!
Sage Appliances Pizzaiolo
A pizzaiolo is a nice compact device that you can place on the worktop. The oven has a number of different settings that you can choose from, which I will describe below:
- Style (pizza style) 400 degrees Extremely intense heat, ideal for cooking a pizza with vegetables on it. Of course it differs per vegetable exactly how long that is. But you can very well see through the window into the oven!
- Woodfired (wood fired) The wood-fired setting provides a temperature of 400 degrees Celsius, which simulates the environment of a traditional pizza oven. Thanks to the intelligent ELEMENT IG system, built into the entire Sage oven category, the heat is transported where it is needed. This keeps the vegetables fresh, while the pizza is cooked perfectly.
- Thin & crispy For a delicious thin base that gets nice and crispy.
- Thick trust A nice thick crust pizza, with a generous filling.
- Pan pizza The oven comes with a special pan that allows you to make the perfect pan pizza.
- Frozen For the perfect preparation of a frozen pizza.
- 160 degrees For a quick tasty snack such as a pita bread, flatbread topped with some cheese and toppings.
Settings on the oven
The oven also has a button for "darkness", with which you can specify how dark you want your crust. And then there is also a manual mode. A magnetic plate is supplied for this that you can place exactly around the buttons. You can then set the temperature yourself, so you can decide for yourself how long and at what temperature you want to bake. One pizza goes on the plate at a time. With the included pizza shovel, you can slide your pizza onto the pizza stone and the baking can begin. Before you start baking, you need to burn both the oven and the pan pizza pan. This process is super easy and is well described in the supplied booklets.
Place the oven on your countertop and it should be free-standing all around. You are also not allowed to place anything on the pizzaiolo oven. If you have a small kitchen, this can of course be a challenge.
Homemade pizza with the Pizzaiolo
So we're going to get started with a homemade pizza dough. You only need a few basic ingredients for this. Once the dough has risen and you get to work, I have one tip: work quickly! The first time it went well, with the second pizza I was chatting and the dough stuck to my shovel. Part of it slid onto the pizza stone and part of it stayed on my shovel. Then I quickly folded it over and inadvertently made a kind of calzone…
It didn't look as pretty, but the taste was perfect. Let's just say practice makes perfect! I like the Woodfired stand myself. The pizza is ready in (!!) 2 minutes and has a nice crispy crust. And with a family of three people, everything is on the table within 10 minutes.
Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

Ingredients:
- 500 gram type 00 flower
- 7 gram dried yeast - ( 1 bag )
- 10 gram salt
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 2 el olive oil
For the topping:
- 1 jar of tomato sauce
- 250 gram grated cheese
- 50 gram grated pecorino
- 40 Taggiasca olives - (small Italian olives)
- 10 fresh basil leaves
- 2 el dried basil
- 1 bowl mozzarella cheese
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Take your kitchen mixer with dough hook and put all the ingredients for the dough in the bowl. Mix the dough for 10 minutes. Remove the ball from the shell and place it on a piece of baking paper sprinkled with some flour and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Cut the ball into 4 equal parts and roll into nice tight balls. Place them back on the baking paper lined with flour and cover with a damp tea towel. Let the bulbs rise for an hour at room temperature.
- Heat the Pizzaiolo oven, turn it to the desired setting. The device determines the heating time itself, at 400 degrees that will be a maximum of 20 minutes.
- Sprinkle some semolina on your counter and shape a nice flat pizza from one pizza ball with your hands. Spread with some tomato sauce and sprinkle with grated cheese, mozzarella, and Pecorino. On top a little dried basil and finally some olives.
- Use the pizza shovel to scoop the pizza from the counter and quickly slide it into the oven. I used the woodfired setting and the pizza was ready in 2 minutes.
- Cut the pizza into pieces with a pizza cutter and serve!
- Delicious bites!
