Influencer marketing and making money

The title describes exactly what I'm going to talk about in this article. “Influencer marketing and making money” … how can you make money with your blog, your Instagram, what do I think about that and what do I do to ensure that my company actually delivers? Why this article? Because every week I get the question from starting (food) bloggers about how I do this. How do I get my collaborations, why am I paid, why choose whether or not to collaborate with a company. And especially how I approach this in what often turns out to be "difficult bloggers' world". Influencer marketing and making money
Money, money, money, makes the world go round.

Marketing Machines: Instagram, Facebook

What I think I have to explain far too often is that these social media channels are nothing more and nothing less than enormous marketing platforms. You post something and your followers respond to it, they are going to buy it, want it or just like your content. The goal of companies and PR agencies is sales! We don't need to make it more romantic. And “money makes the world go round”. So the moment you create content, write articles, show and promote products, you are working for that brand. And why would you want it for free? working?

Free package, barter deals, free publicity

I also struggled with this in the beginning, because how nice are those packages! And how cool is it that a brand knows how to find you and thinks you are good enough to send something. But then you may wonder if they have to place an advertisement for this, it will cost them money. On TV, in magazines, on Facebook and Instagram, it costs money and why would you, who also reaches thousands of potential customers with your reach, advertise for free?

The world upside down right? PR agencies get paid handsomely to find bloggers to work for a brand. And your first question should really be what you're going to get paid for it. That is why I hardly accept packages anymore because I am not a walking “advertising column” that makes free publicity for everyone.

Link building on Delicious Happen, that too can be done in a paid partnership.

Paid collaboration

Francine I don't dare to ask for money, Francine I'm afraid my content is not good enough to get paid. Frequently heard comments. But how do you determine your value? And what are normal rates? This has also been a quest for me. I usually ask the other person first, what are they willing to pay? Here are a few tips to help you:

  • Calculate an hourly rate for yourself, how long are you busy?
  • How many platforms should you post on?
  • Do they want a blog post with a link? Calculate your DA (Domain Authority)
  • How many followers do you have and what is your reach, for this you put your account on a business account.
  • What exactly do they want from you in terms of posts and number of stories.
  • Is payment with one bottle of oil / bar of chocolate etc etc really a good barter deal, and are you seriously going to make so many stories and advertising for it?

And that responsibility also rests very much with yourself. Google, search, network and talk about it with your fellow bloggers.

What kind of collaborations does Delicious Happen enter into?

Preferably paid collaborations! I cannot live on air and love and my mortgage has to be paid as well. But I also look at what suits me. So you will mainly find food-related things that fit into my life and lifestyle. And more than once I've said no to items that don't suit me. What do I do?

  • Collaborations about products or articles that I would buy myself.
  • The amount is proportional to the work I have to do.
  • I create my own content in my style and atmosphere, as befits Delicious Happen.

And furthermore, I am crystal clear about when I do something for a fee. By using the right hashtags such as:

  • #collaboration #collab #ad #spon if paid.
  • #got #selfpaid if that is unpaid.
  • #invited if a company asks me to come.
  • Or on the blog with a disclaimer at the bottom of the blog post.

A barter deal, but a great networking evening where good contacts were made again.

Influencer marketing and making money

All in all, I'm not giving you exactly on a silver platter what to do or what to ask. This is because there are many factors that determine the price. Every blogger / Instagrammer is different and everyone has to use their own strengths. Here are a few more tips for communicating clearly to companies:

  • Make a media kit with your rates and your reach figures, you can also email this to all PR agencies so that they see that you are serious in your collaborations.
  • Always ask for a budget for work, when requirements are set such as mandatory hashtags, conditions how the content should look like, etc. then it is just work and that has to be paid.
  • Sign up with platforms that offer paid collaborations. They know the tricks of the trade and don't mind negotiating or asking for money. You often write your own pitch and determine your own rate.

And if you unexpectedly do tackle a barter deal, let that be somewhat in proportion to what you have to do for it. It's really not normal to make six Instagram posts for two packs of pancake mix, for example! As an influencer you also want to earn money.

Because the demand for information is so great I will do more with this. Keep an eye on my page / social media. And also read the blog of luke about this. Influencer marketing meaning

Event organization, this is also a nice way of entering into a paid collaboration. In this case I organized a great “goat event at the farmer”.

Let that money roll in

If only it would all be that easy, wouldn't it? If only it were a full monthly salary, big profits and plenty of long-term collaborations! But I will help you out of the dream, influencer marketing and making money is only for a few. I know more bloggers who do this part-time than those who manage to get a full monthly salary out of it. If you want to do this full-time as a job, you will have to invest a lot of time and money! It is all the more important that this market remains healthy and that not everyone continues to work on free publicity and stares blindly at free boxes of products that then require hours and hours of work. 1. Very nice this article! I'll get to work on it right away. Starting with registering with the Chamber of Commerce this week. And then we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the tips!

  2. Thanks for your tips and inspiring story! I have become a lot wiser! And yes you are absolutely right, to put in so much effort for 1 pack of pancake flour!!!!! I still have a lot to learn! Much success, with many new opportunities and challenges! Top notch!

  3. Hi Francine,
Thank you for opening my eyes.
I have already declined 2 assignments because they really asked a lot for some bottles of bio drink and to promote a coffee cup. From now on I will only take on the things that I really want and that I don't have to do too much for ... or get paid for.
    Greetings Pascale x
