We shook off some here at home! The shaker has been doing a good job here the last few months and I can say I'm having a lot of fun with it. This falls under the Whiskey sours because we also use lemon juice. The combination with the cucumber makes it a nice fresh cocktail. Irish Maid Whiskey Cocktail
Nice story behind this Irish Maid Whiskey cocktail is the bottle of Jameson that you see in the photo. We got married in 2008 and celebrated our honeymoon in Ireland. During a tour of the Jameson distillery we bought two Distillery spare bottles. Aged for twelve years, a beautiful keepsake. One was for my father and it has been in his closet for years and years.
Sadly he passed away in 2019 and my husband inherited the contents of his liquor cabinet. There was also this bottle that he had never opened. With that, the Whiskey has been in the bottle for 26 years now, and the circle has come full circle again with this bottle now in the liquor cabinet at our house.
This Irish Maid Whiskey cocktail is a delicious drink for a warm summer evening or a cozy drink. So it is very fresh and fruity because of the cucumber and lemon juice, which form a perfect balance with the sweet and smoky taste of the whiskey. The advantage of whiskey is that it has a very long shelf life. So you don't have to worry if you don't drink it that often.
You can leave even an opened bottle in your cupboard for years and years without the quality deteriorating. This cocktail is also very easy to make, all you need is a shaker, a muddler and a sieve. Ingredients:
- 80 ml Irish Whiskey - Jameson
- 30 ml lemon juice
- 50 ml elderflower liqueur - (St Germain)
- 30 ml sugar syrup
- ice cubes
- 1 cucumber
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- With a potato peeler you remove a number of strips from the cucumber. Fold this over and over on a skewer. Cut off 4 slices of half a cm and put them in your shaker.
- With your muddler (a kind of pestle) you crush the cucumber in the shaker.
- Pour in the whiskey, liqueur, lemon juice, and syrup and add a few ice cubes. Shake well.
- Pour the cocktail into the glasses through a strainer.
