Ciao a tutti! It's almost Christmas, so everyone must be busy planning the Christmas menu. You don't have to think about dessert anymore, because tiramisu always works well! Tiramisù is without doubt the most famous dessert from the Italiaanse kitchen. There are quite a few stories about its origin, but the most famous (and used) is that tiramis used to be given to sick and old people to strengthen them. Tiramisù also literally translated means 'pull me up' or 'lift me up'. Whether it is really correct has yet to be checked, but it remains a very nice story and we will therefore keep it in. Making your own tiramisu is very easy and of course I have an Italian tiramisu recipe for you!
How do the Italians celebrate Christmas then?
As I said, this dish is perfect for the holidays. This is also celebrated extensively in Italy. Unlike in the Netherlands, they often eat warm at lunchtime in Italy. The Christmas 'dinner' often takes place in the afternoon. Around 13.00 people sit down to the table and often stay (at least at our house) until the beginning of the evening. A traditional dinner looks like this:
Antipasti: This literally means 'before the meal' and are small bites. This includes various meats, cheeses, olives and bread.
Pasta: After the antipasti, a pasta is always served. During the holidays that is often a special pasta and in our case that is Pasta With Walnut Sauce.
Secondo: A secondo is a main course, which often consists of a meat or fish dish. This is usually served with a 'contorno' which is a side dish. A typical main course for Christmas is rabbit, lamb or vitello tonnato.
Dolce: For dessert, something sweet is served. This could be anything in principle, but in Italy they love the classics: tiramis, Grandmother's cake or panna cotta. During Christmas, in addition to dessert, panettone is also eaten: Italian Christmas bread.
Caffè: Coffee is always drunk after a meal. In Italy this is called un caffé and that means an espresso.
Digestivo: After coffee (sometimes during) the Italians finish with a digestif to digest the meal. Common drinks that are consumed are: sambuca, grappa or fernet.
Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

Ingredients:
- 500 gram mascarpone
- 300 ml undefeated whipped cream
- 100 ml condensed milk
- 20 savoiardi biscuits - (Italian ladyfingers)
- 150 ml All espresso brewing methods
- 60 ml Amaretto
- 4 el cocoa powder
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Mix the espresso with the Amaretto and let it cool.
- Take a mixing bowl and beat the whipped cream in it.
- In another bowl, mix the mascarpone with the condensed milk. Beat this with the mixer for a while, so that a lumpy, firm batter is created.
- Carefully add the whipped cream to the mascarpone mixture. Do this little by little, stirring gently with a spatula each time. (You may not have to use all the whipped cream, the only time the whipped cream is a bit thicker than the other time. You know you have enough when your batter is still firm but creamy and fluffy. )
- Take an (oven) dish, dip the savoiardi in the coffee/amaretto mixture and place it horizontally in it. Brush the savoiardi with the mascarpone mixture. You can do this with a spatula or you can do this in nice strips using a piping bag. Then sprinkle with cocoa powder.
- In the same way, make another layer with the savoiardi, the mascarpone mixture and the cocoa powder. Two coats are sufficient.
- Place the tiramis in the fridge for at least 5 hours. The best is if you let it set overnight. Tip: if you have a dinner, you can also serve the tiramis in a small glass
- Delicious bites!
