Italian cantucci recipe
What makes these cookies so special is that they are baked twice. This makes them very crispy. Officially, these cookies are eaten with a glass of vin santo. This is a Tuscan dessert wine that used to be drunk during a church service. This is also where the name comes from, vin santo means 'holy wine'. Wonderful to dip the cantucci in! But don't worry, you can also eat them with a cup of Italian coffee, just as delicious!

The cookies need to be baked twice. This makes them nice and crispy. If you want to store them, I recommend using an airtight container.

This will help the cookies retain their crispness and prevent them from becoming soft and chewy. Baking the cookies repeatedly is essential for achieving the desired texture. It is also important to use the right type of flour and to monitor the baking time closely. Additionally, adding the right amount of sugar and butter not only adds flavor but also helps to achieve the perfect consistency. For best results, let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack so they retain their crispy exterior.

Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Take a mixing bowl and put the sugar and 1 egg in it. Mix this well so that it becomes one whole and add the pinch of salt while mixing.
- Take another bowl and put the flour, vanilla sugar and baking powder in it. Mix this well. Then add this to the bowl with sugar and egg and mix well with a wooden spoon.
- Once the dough becomes crumbly, add the butter and continue with your hands. When the dough comes together, add the almonds, the zest of the orange zest and the marsala or amaretto.
- Continue kneading until your dough becomes a smooth ball. Cut the dough in half and make two rolls of about 25-30 centimeters.
- Place the two rolls on a baking tray with baking paper underneath.
- Take the other egg, separate the yolk from the white and beat the yolk. Brush the two rolls with the egg yolk and put them in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes.
- Then let them cool for a while (not too long, otherwise they will become too hard) and place them on a cutting board. Cut the rolls into diagonal slices and place the cookies back on the baking tray with the baking paper.
- Put them in the oven at 160 degrees and bake for another 17 minutes. Let cool and then they are ready to eat!
- Delicious bites!
