Sweet and sour sauce is one of my favorite sauces to eat with chicken. There's something addictive about it, that combination of sweet and sour, and it pairs perfectly with the tender and crispy chicken. You can of course buy a jar of sweet and sour sauce in the supermarket, or get a bag of chicken nuggets at McDonalds and get your sauce with it. But believe me, making it yourself is much more fun and tastier! And it is also very simple. The secret of this sweet and sour sauce is the plum jam. I make it myself with fresh plums from my garden, but you can also use a good quality jam that you buy in the store. chicken balls recipe chinese chinese
The jam gives the sauce a delicious fruity taste and a nice shine. All you need is some vinegar, sugar, water, cornflour and a pinch of salt. You bring everything to a boil and let it thicken to a smooth sauce. It's that easy!
Chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce and turmeric
To serve with the sauce I made chicken meatballs. They are also very easy to make. You mix minced chicken with some breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, soy sauce, ginger and pepper. You make small balls of it and fry them in a frying pan until they are done and brown. You can also bake them in the oven if you prefer. The chicken balls are juicy and flavorful, and they go perfectly with the sweet and sour sauce.
You can serve them as a snack or as a main course with some rice and vegetables. I'm sure you'll love it! This recipe for chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce is highly recommended for anyone who loves chicken and sweet and sour!
The sauce got a few big thumbs up. A delicious snack that you can serve at a Sunday afternoon drink at your home in the garden. You can also easily make plum jam yourself from fresh plums and you can also flavor it with all kinds of tasty spices. As soon as our plum tree bears fruit again I will make a recipe for it!

- 2 el lemon juice
- 3 small shallots - very fine shredded
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
For the sweet and sour sauce you will need:
- 8 tablespoons plum jam - half jar
- 100 ml white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 knife point chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 pinch salt
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Take a large bowl and put the minced chicken in it.
- Chop the shallots very finely and add them to the minced meat, then add the rest of the ingredients. Then add the breadcrumbs. Do this by feel so that they don't feel too wet and not too dry. Minced chicken is very greasy when you roll the balls. The structure is very different from that of ordinary minced meat. After rolling, put the balls in the fridge for a while so they can harden a bit.
- And now for the sauce: take a saucepan and add the vinegar and plum jam and stir with a whisk. If it is too runny for your liking, add some extra jam to make it thicker. Then season with the spices and slowly bring to the boil, stirring. Let it simmer for a while and then pour it into a bowl.
- Take a frying pan with a thick bottom and put some oil or fat in it and take the balls from the fridge. Fry the balls until they are nicely browned.
