(I.e. Preparation time: 20 minutes 👨🍳 Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆
My china cabinet is full of nice containers and all kinds of specific crockery for certain dishes. Also these super nice "snail bowls". Now not everyone is a big fan of escargots, that is a thing for some people. But the method of preparation with lots of garlic butter and baguette appeals to a lot of people. We make a seafood version with these garlic butter mussels from the oven. And I can tell you that you are going to dip every compartment of this bowl with your baguette! Mussels au gratin with garlic butter or herb butter.

Why Zeeland Mussels Are Perfect for This Dish
I was also allowed to make this recipe with great mussels from Zeeland. A product that I am certainly proud of, because how typically Dutch is this? Straight from our own Oosterschelde and the beautiful Zeeland on your plate. And again an easy and super tasty recipe. Eating mussels is not as exciting as some people think. And extremely versatile, serve this fine bowl with your (Christmas) dinner and score high points.

The Perfect Garlic Butter for Mussels
We use grated Gruyere, which is a cheese with a fairly pronounced taste. The cheese melts well and mixes wonderfully with the mussels and garlic butter. We do not use any salt in this recipe because there is already enough in the cheese, but also the samphire that I chopped into small pieces for the butter. A very surprising recipe, which certainly does not look out of place on your Christmas table! Very easy and so made.

The grated Gruyere is a delicious cheese that blends perfectly with the mussels and garlic butter. To add even more flavor, I also chop small pieces of samphire and mix them into the butter. This creates a surprising recipe that should definitely not be missing on your Christmas table. No salt is necessary, because the cheese and samphire already provide enough flavor. With this simple preparation you can create a delicious dish on the table in no time that everyone will enjoy!

And this is how you make it:
- Grab a bowl and put the butter in it. Squeeze the garlic cloves into the bowl, add some freshly ground pepper and the samphire and parsley, chopped into small pieces.
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees. While it is preheating, place the container with the butter in it and let the butter soften.
- When the butter is soft, remove it from the oven and mix well with a fork. Spoon a teaspoon of this butter mix into each hole in the snail dish.
- Cook the mussels in a pan until all the shells are open and you can remove the mussels. (this is done in about 3 minutes) Put a mussel in each hole of the snail dish.
- Sprinkle the gruyère over the ramekins and spoon some more of the garlic butter over the ramekins. Place in the oven until the cheese has melted and serve with the baguette.
- Delicious bites!
