Traveling is so much fun! You get to know other people, other food cultures and taste all kinds of new flavors. My last trip of last year took me to London. Now you might think “huh” why a Lebanese mezze platter? Well on the way back home at Stansted airport we had to wait a while. le plateau de mezzé

And instead of going to a standard burger chain, I opted for a super cozy Lebanese restaurant. The menu had all kinds of delicious dishes, but instead of focusing on one dish, I took a mezze platter.

So what exactly is that mezze? Well, mezze are actually all small snacks. Together they make a delicious platter. So you can vary enormously with that. Often vegetarian in the Middle East, a little more towards the Mediterranean you will also find meat on it. Dips such as baba ganoesh, hummus, tzatziki, and a nice piece of naan (a kind of garlic bread) are definitely part of it!

If you want to try something different on the barbecue, you can make a skewer with goat meat or a minced meat skewer. Goat meat, also called goat lamb or kabritu, is tender, lean and rich in protein and minerals. It has a light lamb flavor that combines well with various spice mixes for that Middle Eastern flavor explosion.

Think of baharat, za'atar, ras-el-hanut for example. All mixes that smell very nice and are made with various types of herbs and spices typical of that region. You can cut the goat meat into cubes and marinate it with the spice mix of your choice.

Then thread the meat onto skewers and grill on the barbecue until cooked and juicy. You can also mix minced meat with the spice mix, an egg and some breadcrumbs and roll them into balls. Thread the balls onto skewers and fry them on the barbecue until they are nicely brown and crispy. Serve the skewers with a tasty and refreshing salad, pita bread, delicious hummus or tzatziki. This is sure to create a delicious BBQ experience!
