There is quite a bit more to learn in the Netherlands about eating squid, also known as octopus. A popular piece of seafood on a plate in the Mediterranean countries, perhaps still too unknown here. And unknown makes unloved, right? An order from Crisp included this recipe for octopus taco snacks with chimichurri. Although, it was actually meant to be one big taco and not a taco snack. I adjusted the taco recipe a bit and made very nice small bites of it. Nice to serve with a drink and they bite away nicely. The octopus is already cooked and is in a can on oil, we just need to heat the pieces.
Octopus taco snacks with chimichurri
Octopus is actually too tough to eat. In order to do that, they are frozen. We often eat the tentacles and you usually still see those suckers. Also known as pulpo in Mediterranean countries, and seen as a real delicacy. So it is also quite expensive. This taco snack is very easy to make.
By adding some jalapeño we give a nice spicy accent to this taco recipe. You can order all these products from the grocery app Crisp.
Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

Ingredients:
- 2 cans of octopus tentacles - (230 grams total) from, for example, the brand Pepus
- 4 corn tortillas
- 1 lime
- 1 jalapeño pepper
- 6 radishes
- 1 jar of chimmichurri
- 1 red cabbage
- 1 orange
- 2 roots
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- Grate the carrots clean and cut into thin strips with the mandoline. Also carefully slice the radishes into thin slices.
- Remove the outer leaves of the red cabbage and cut some fine strips of the cabbage with a knife.
- Grab your frying pan and open the cans of octopus. Add this to the frying pan with the oil from the can. Fry the octopus on low heat for a few minutes.
- Squeeze the orange and pour the juice over the octopus and season with a little salt and pepper.
- Use a round cutter to cut small circles out of the corn tortillas. I got 4 rounds out of one tortilla.
- In another dry frying pan, heat the small tortillas briefly on both sides. Then spread them with the chimmichurri.
- Divide the octopus pieces over the small tacos and finish with the fresh vegetables and some freshly cut jalapeño rings. Serve with some lime wedges for a fresh touch to the octopus meat.
- Delicious bites!
