For Valentine's Day, my daughter and I baked a nice cake in which we hid a heart. A delicious cake with a delicious chocolate cake hidden inside and a thick layer of creamy chocolate on top. I had not written out a recipe for this and only posted the photos online. These turned out to be popular, so we are now making this cake again for Easter. Why is it called an Easter peek-a-boo cake with a surprise? Because this cake recipe is a nice surprise when you cut it open and the figure of the hare's ears become visible. You can actually buy the molds anywhere. You can find them in various stores or order them online.
Easter peekaboo cake:
After you take the cake out of the oven, let it cool completely before you cut it. This is important because it helps the cake keep its shape and not fall apart. It may be tempting to cut the cake earlier, but it's worth waiting.
When the cake has cooled completely, it is time to cut it and serve it with a nice dollop of whipped cream on top. Not only does this add some extra flavor to the dish, but it also gives it a festive touch.
You can choose to whip the whipped cream yourself with a little sugar and vanilla extract, or you can opt for ready-made whipped cream from a spray can.
* So I bought cake mix and did not get started with my own mix. Of course you can definitely do that if you like. Then check the packaging for the rest of the ingredients such as butter and eggs.
* There is no chocolate layer on this cake. You can do this by melting a 200 gram bar and spreading it on the cake and letting it stiffen. Do you want a soft ganache? Then bring 100 ml of whipped cream to the boil and stir in 150 grams of chocolate pieces. Keep stirring until everything is melted and then let it cool down. This will stiffen the ganache a bit and you can then spread it on the cake.
Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.

- 1 pack cake mix
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 pack cake mix
Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.
And this is how you make it:
- First preheat your oven to 145 degrees.
- Take a mixing bowl and put the first cake mix in it. Mix everything together with the cocoa and then pour it into your cake tin. I use a silicone mold, there is no need for extra baking paper because when it has cooled you just pop it out.
- Place this cake in the oven for 55/60 minutes until cooked through. You can check this with a skewer. If it comes out dry, it's done.
- Then let the cake cool and take it out of the mold. With the cookie cutter you stick out the ears and place them back in the cake tin. We just keep the leftovers in a Tupperware container because that tastes best!
- Take your (clean) bowl again and add the second mix. Carefully pour these on the ears until they are completely gone.
- Place the cake tin in the oven again at 145 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes. Let it cool completely before removing it from the mold.
- Delicious bites!
