Spicy grilled tuna tataki

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

We are going to bake tuna tataki. Actually, “tataki” is the way we prepare the fish. Fry very briefly so that the outer layer is grilled and the meat is still raw on the inside. The word tataki means "diced" and that's how we serve the fish. Usually the outside of the fish is covered with sesame seeds, this time we also add some spice! This tataki recipe gets that because of what chili flakes to the sesame seed mixture.

The tuna has a nice crispy edge with sesame and chili flakes.

Tuna is a delicious fish that you can prepare in different ways. Tuna has a firm texture and a mild, slightly sweet taste that combines well with other ingredients. One of my favorite ways to eat tuna is raw, thinly sliced and marinated in a mixture of lime juice, ginger, garlic and red pepper.

This gives the tuna a fresh and spicy taste that will make your taste buds tingle. And of course we serve it with a little soy sauce, which adds a salty and umami taste. I didn't add salt to the marinade or the tuna, because that's already enough in this sauce. This dish is perfect as an appetizer or as part of a sushi platter.

Serve this tataki recipe with a glass of your sake, or a refreshing beer to dampen the spiciness a bit! As you have read in the recipe card, baking tuna tataki does not take much time at all. A nice appetizer for the weekend.

Buy good fish, you eat it partly raw and therefore you certainly do not want to eat fish that is not fresh. I often get these blocks of tuna from the wholesaler where they are in the freezer. That's also a great option. I often make this spicy grilled tuna tataki as an appetizer with a fish dinner.
