Product review Stompetoren cheese
Estimated reading time: 5 minutes
A nice part of having a Foodblog is that producers like to know what people think of their products. This gives me the opportunity to review their products and give my honest opinion about them. And of course it's great fun to find such a package in the mail and see what they have put in it! This time : product review Stompetoren cheese. We Dutch are up for a nice piece of cheese, so doing this review was certainly no punishment.
Stompetoren Cheese
Stompetoren's cheese comes from meadow milk. That is milk that is produced by cows that are out in the meadow as much and as long as possible. There they eat fresh grass and the ladies have a wonderful life outside on the meadow. The cows are outside for at least 120 days a year and that for at least 6 hours a day. The cheese factory is located in the North of our country in the Beemster.
The CONO cheese factory is located there. CONO is a cooperative that has existed since 1901. A number of livestock farmers joined forces and through this collaboration they were no longer dependent on traders. In this cheese factory, the curds are still stirred by hand and work is done in the most sustainable way possible. The cheese is further matured in the Stompetoren ripening warehouse in a very special climate.
A high temperature and high humidity ensure that the cheese remains smooth. Well I was allowed to judge that in this product review Stompetoren cheese.
Cheese 1 : Stump Tower Mature
-The mature cheese is the most famous variant of Stompetoren. It has also been awarded the title "Best cheese in the Netherlands". The cheese matures for three to four months and has a wonderful full taste.
When I open the box there are three pieces of cheese in it. All wrapped in beautiful points. The matured cheese has a nice yellow color. When I open it, it smells nice and you immediately feel that it is a delicious soft cheese. I have cut all the cheeses into cubes on a cheese board to taste them as pure as possible. And this cheese lives up to its name as far as I'm concerned. Wonderfully soft and full of flavour.
Cheese 2: Stompetoren Cumin cheese
-The Cumin cheese from Stompetoren is available from young cheese to old cheese. I got the stale variety. In the CONO cheese factory they add cumin seeds to the cheese and this gives the cheese a delicious nutty taste.
This piece of cheese is also neatly packed and when I open it and press on the cheese it is nice and soft. In my experience it is simple when it comes to cumin cheese: You either like it or you don't like it. Well, ever since I was little, I've been crazy about cumin cheese, so it was right here. The cheese has a nice soft taste and the seeds do not dominate. Delicious with a little mustard.
Cheese 3 : Stompetoren Grand cru
- Appointed by Stompetoren himself as the top piece in the collection. An 18-month matured yet sliceable cheese. And that in itself is special for an aged cheese. This is due to the special way of ripening in the warehouse.
We love old cheese here at home, so we really liked this one. The best of the three in my opinion. What immediately struck me was the beautiful box that contained the cheese. That just gives it a little more allure. The beautiful crystals that are visible in the cheese and that melt on your tongue when you taste it gently. Despite the fact that it is an old cheese, it remains quite soft and has a very nice full taste.
Product review Stompetoren cheese
All in all, three beautiful cheeses that have passed the inspection well in my opinion! So with the Grand Cru as the big favorite.
Stompetoren outlets:
De cheese van Stompetoren owes its name to the village of Stompetoren in North Holland, where the cows graze in the meadows. The cheese is for sale at the best specialty stores in the Netherlands. On their site you can easily find where in your region there is a cheese trade that sells them. You can also find actions that Stompetoren has here. One of them is gaining your own weight in cheese! How fun is that?!
