Which country in the world can say that their National Day is a holiday that is celebrated worldwide? Ireland does have a rather unique day. Important buildings worldwide will be given the green light on March 17 and there are parades. Declare yourself “Irish for the day” and join the celebrations! And if you're celebrating a nice party, then of course a delicious snack fits with it. I made this St Patricksday shamrock pastry. A snack in the form of Ireland's well-known cloverleaf. The Holy Trinity as it is also called. shamrock pastry recipe
This is what you need for the St Patricksday shamrock pastry
- 200 grams half and half chopped
- 20 sheets of puff pastry (you can make 10 snacks with this)
- 2 eggs
- small cup of breadcrumbs
For the spice mix for the meat, use the following herbs/spices:
- salt pepper
- 1 tsp basil
- 2 cloves garlic pressed
- half tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tbsp parsley
- 1 tbsp thyme
- 1/2 tbsp sage
And this is how you make the St Patricksday shamrock pastry:
Let's prepare the meat first. Take a large bowl and put the minced meat in it. Add one egg, the breadcrumbs and the herb-spice mix and knead into one large ball. Set aside until use.
Let the sheets of puff pastry thaw, and beat the other egg in a bowl.
Google the word "shamrock" choose a nice one, make a printscreen of it and print the photo. Cut out a template from this clover leaf and use it to cut the puff pastry into the right shape. (of course there are also cutters for sale in this shape)
Making the pastries
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
Then cut with a knife around your clover shape from the puff pastry. Do this with all the puff pastry sheets.
Brush the puff pastry sheet well with the beaten egg and put some minced meat on top, be careful not to overdo it, otherwise the second sheet will not fit on top. Also spread the sheet with which you cover the snack. Place the second sheet on top and press gently. Then place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Brush the tops of the pastries with beaten egg and then put them in the oven for about 15 minutes until they are nicely cooked and coloured.
