With this simple recipe you can make delicious tiger prawns in spicy tomato sauce. A versatile dish that you can quickly put on the table and also goes perfectly with pasta, rice or even bruschetta! The advantage of having a card for a wholesaler is that you can buy those big bags of prawns there. In terms of quality, I find them better than the small prawns in the supermarket. Delicious big bags with really thick, meaty tiger prawns.
Here at home we love shrimp, with lots of garlic, fresh herbs, tomato sauce and for example a good pasta with it. This recipe is actually a very nice basic recipe for a very tasty tomato sauce that you can also use very well for other recipes. Tiger shrimp in spicy tomato sauce
Penaeus monodon, that's the scientific name for the tiger shrimp we used in our recipe for tiger shrimp in spicy tomato sauce. These shrimps can be recognized by their black stripes on their shell and their large size. They are native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, where they live in tropical and subtropical waters. But like many other sea creatures and fish, they can easily move to other areas. They are not bothered by boundaries or barriers in the water. That is why they are now also found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. They are now also widely grown in aquaculture, because they are very popular with consumers. They have a firm texture and a sweet taste. Especially in Mediterranean countries they are eaten a lot, for example in paellas with rice or in pastas with sauce.

You can choose peeled or unpeeled shrimp. I personally often opt for the peeled or half-peeled shrimp. The intestinal tract has already been removed from that and that is just a little easier to process in the recipe tiger shrimp in spicy tomato sauce.
Tasty tomatoes
Use good quality tomatoes for your sauce, these have more flavor and you will certainly taste that in your dish. Incidentally, the taste problem with tomatoes is in his genes. Due to breeding on the various varieties and the choice for color, shelf life and size, the taste has been lost a bit. People who grow their own tomatoes know this because they are actually much better than the ones from the supermarket. So I would opt for organic tomatoes anyway.

You can vary it by adding fresh basil or oregano for extra flavour. Tiger prawns in spicy tomato sauce are delicious with pasta, baguette or rice.
