So! And that was February, what a month that was. I'll get straight to the point, as far as my weight is concerned, not much has happened. Last month was quite frustrating because I kept playing ping pong between 81 and 82 kg. As a result, I deliberately stepped on the scale a little less often. These are the moments when I would quickly throw in the towel. My thought is “never mind”, “this isn't working”, “keep on with those snacks”… But my very first run came up, I was still training hard, and still hadn't drunk a drop! What a shame it would be to give that up and flop on the couch… Read along in the Update Delicious Happen knock-out race 2 to see what the results were.
Fortress loop Gorinchem 5K
The restart of my running career has gone well for me so far. I use a schedule that is challenging, but not extremely pushy. The last thing I want is to get injured again and get back to square one. The distances last month were still not very far, and almost all were interval runs. We have now moved up in the schedule to “learning to walk quickly”. I set the goal for the 5K in Gorinchem at 5km in 30 minutes. Three days before the run I ran 5 km in 33,53 minutes here on the dike. So that would have to be done during the race. The Fortress is anything but a flat track. A lot of ascent and descent, stairs, crazy curves and people getting in the way….
The Run
There I was… the sun was shining and the weather conditions were perfect. Ears in, count down and run. With so many people around you, you just have to kind of go with the flow. Only after a kilometer it became a bit more spacious between the people and I could walk a little faster. I also didn't know the route at all so some parts were quite a surprise. Mind at 0, listening carefully to my Runkeeper lady in my ear who gave me my times, and suddenly I was at the last kilometer. With a short sprint I crossed the finish line in 30,30 minutes!! What an adrenaline rush that gives. Goal achieved, medal around the neck and very proud of myself. Next target? 10km Almere Cityrun on June 26.
Update Delicious Happen knock-out race 2: Measuring is knowing
Brrrr always exciting to go to the gym and see the numbers… I already knew that the weight hadn't necessarily gone down much because I had weighed myself a few times at home too. Yet it "felt" as if something had happened. It is therefore also good to keep track of the centimeters. The scales have not given me very much result, but something has happened to the centimeters.
- current weight 79,3 that is -2,1 kg in February
- fat percentage 39,1 which means 1,6% less
- BMI 25,3
- chest circumference: 103 cm / -1 cm
- buttock size: 111 cm / remained the same
- waist circumference: 91 cm / -4 cm
- calf circumference: 39 cm / remained the same
- leg circumference: 61 cm / -5 cm
- arm circumference: 29 cm / -1 cm
To put everything together:
- Weight : 86,6 / 81,4 / 79,3 : -7,3kg total
- Fat: 42 / 40,7 / 39,1 : -2,9%
- BMI : 27,6 / 26,1 / 25,3
- chest: 106 / 104 / 103 : -3 cm
- belly: 96 / 95 / 91 : -5 cm
- buttock: 113 / 111 / 111 : -2 cm
- leg: 66 / – / 61 : -5cm
- calf: 39/ 39 / 39 : –
- arm: 31 / 30 / 29 -2 cm
So although not as much happened in February as in the first month, we do see that something is happening. That's why I'm certainly not going to throw in the towel and continue on the chosen path. The ultimate goal of 70 kg is very ambitious I know. I don't know if I'll ever make it, there's still -9,3 to go.
Update Delicious Happen knockout race 2
The second update is a fact, and if you look at the intermediate position of -7,3 kg, that is already a very nice result! What I would like to see is that all that hard work will soon be rewarded in a lower fat percentage. Both in the fat that is around my intestines / organs, but also the “bacon” around my legs and buttocks. Once again it is clear that you are carrying all that weight with you. Unfortunately, two days after the run I still have quite a bit of pain in my hip. I've had a serious injury before, so I'll build in some rest next week. But also start working on more powerful leg, calf, and abs! This feels like a minor setback, but I'm not going to let it get in the way of achieving my goals.
Speak to you again next month at the next update, hopefully with good news!
