We're going to have a nice wine on Christmas Eve

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Hi everyone! This is so cool, I can start blogging for Delicious Happen about wine. And that's good because I happen to know about it. The first tip I want to give you about wine: the more you drink*: the more you learn. Different varieties, that is, because three bottles of Sauvignon Blanc from the same house will not make you any wiser. Now that December is approaching, I wrote my first blog “We're going to have some nice wines on package evening” and we will start with this wine journey on Delicious Happen.

Introduce:

Introducing yourself, that is more difficult than just writing a blog about wine. But we're going for it. I am Fleur, a real Zeeland, mother of Timeau, and friend of Maurice aka de Kreeftenman. Have a huge passion for wine, travel and am a true Burgundian. When I saw Francine's call for guest bloggers I thought: Yes, that's something for Fleur! I immediately emailed her, with 10 reasons why I had to become this, and voilà here we are. Thanks for this opportunity Francine!

Triple kick kick….

Just a little while and then it's time, the kids have been talking about it for weeks and you have probably buried yourself under the wrapping paper by now. Sinterklaas is in the country and the shoes are faithfully ready every night.

It's time to pamper yourself with an evening package. Because after all that Sinterklaas stress (read: at night: did I put a package in everyone's shoe? Would Niels prefer the green ball instead of the blue one?) of the past few weeks. And if you don't have kids, too: because in that case I can imagine that you will be crazy about that Sinterklaas madness, in addition to the Covid-19, which currently dominates our country. Speaking of Covid-19, did you know that the average Dutch person consumes 25% more alcohol than before? Not you? Beautiful! Then you have an extra excuse to fill the climate cabinet, or the refrigerator, with wine for evening packs!

Chardonnay ... Chardo-yes!

But with which wine do we go wine on a nice evening?

Let's face it: you should drink what you like. Do you like white, then you drink white, are you more into red wines? Then you drink red. Our advice for all that sweet junk is a Brut Cava. Comes from the same country as Sinterklaas, you could say it was made for it. Make sure that you do not take an extra brut (extra dry) or a demi-dec (semi-sweet), with an extra brut the match is not so fine and with a demi it becomes too sweet.

White wine on prom night

We'll just assume that you enjoy the gingerbread cookies, chocolate letters and chewy dolls. Are you a real white wine drinker? Then choose a wood-bearing variant. Chardonnay Barrique for example. Barrique stands for wood aging. The vanilla and caramel notes that a wine gets from the wood is a nice match with the sugar parade.

Red wine or Banyuls on Christmas Eve

Spicy is the answer! For example, a French red wine from the Rhône, full of red fruit, spicy but with a subtle creamy aftertaste. That's what you want. You often see with spicy red wines that they are also firm and powerful and we don't want to get rid of them after two glasses, right?! Are you going for the chocolate letter? Then a red Banyuls really remains the best match. A delicious syrupy dessert wine, velvety on your tongue with the taste of raisins. Is Banyuls a bit too heavy for you? Then go for an Italian Brachetto. Easily digestible, sparkling, low alcohol percentage and a little sweet!

I wish you a lot of fun, and we're going to have some nice wines on Christmas Eve!
