Chicory from the oven is a recipe that you can use in many ways. Of course the classic with bechamel sauce and ham is a winner, but a little variation can't hurt, right? As often said, I am a visual person. I get my inspiration from pictures, from magazines or, for example, Pinterest. It's actually just a search engine, but with pictures. The amount of photos to look at in endless, and be inspired is not very complicated there either. chicory from the oven without cheese
The idea for this recipe comes from 15Gram. I did not look further at the recipe, the photo was enough to get started with it myself and to make my own variation on this idea. So here's the recipe for this chicory from the oven with Parma ham without cheese
Chicory from the oven with Parma ham
Chicory is a vegetable that was discovered by Belgian and French growers. Growing vegetables in the dark was a practice practiced in France as early as the 17th century, with the mushroom being a fine example of a vegetable grown in caves around Paris. The idea was to grow vegetables without exposure to sunlight, making them paler and softer in taste.
Belgium can proudly say that they are responsible for the discovery and popularization of chicory. This is a vegetable that is grown in the dark, similar to growing mushrooms, and this technique was first used in Belgium. It is therefore no surprise that Belgians eat much more chicory than the Dutch.
In short, the success of chicory cultivation is due to the Belgian horticulturists who discovered this vegetable and popularized it in their country. It is a vegetable known for its delicate flavor and soft texture, and is still very popular in Belgium and other parts of Europe.
However, the production of this vegetable is declining considerably and it does not seem to be that popular at all. That is of course a shame because you can really process it in many different ways, I have quite a few recipes on my website with this vegetable. Chicory from the oven without cheese
