This “trend” is actually super old, but better late than never! The croiffle is a croissant, but baked between a waffle iron. Hence the pun “croi-ffle”, I had never made it before and now the moment arose that I once again had a croissant roll in my refrigerator that was close to the best before date. It's a shame to throw it away or not do anything with it, so I took my waffle iron out of the shed and used it to make this Summer fruit croiffle with whipped cream recipe. So it can't really even be called a recipe, but more of an inspiration post or a fun photography moment. My daughter approved the waffles, so all in all it was a success.

This summer fruit croiffle with whipped cream is a sweet version. Of course you can give free rein to your imagination and also make savory croiffels with it. You then add cheese, ham, bacon or other savory ingredients. Baking is not terribly difficult, if you "loosen" the top and the dough is still sticking or is not yet brown enough to your liking, then close the waffle iron for a while. You can also actually roll up the dough into a croissant and then sandwich it in between, and your waffle will look like a crushed waffle croissant. I liked square wafers better.

Below is the full recipe with ingredients. Have fun making the recipe below. Delicious bites!

You need:

waffle iron

Ingredients:

  • 1 role croissant dough
  • 100 gram strawberries
  • 100 gram blackberries
  • 100 gram blueberries
  • whipped cream
  • 3 el biscuit spices
  • cooking spray
  • powdered sugar

Nice and easy: click on the logo of your favorite supermarket to add the ingredients.

And this is how you make it:

  • Turn on your waffle maker and let it get hot.
  • Open the rolling pin and remove the dough. Roll out the dough completely and sprinkle the cookie spices on it, making sure there is a layer over all the dough.
  • Cut the dough on the dotted lines and then through the middle again. Fold the dough into small squares. (So you now have a square of 3 layers and the inner layers are covered with the cookie spices).
  • Spray some baking spray on the baking trays of your waffle maker and place 1 square per half on it. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the dough is golden brown and repeat with the rest of the squares.
  • Sprinkle with some icing sugar, pipe whipped cream on the waffles and add some fruit and serve! Delicious Happen!
As a variation, you can also spread chocolate spread on the dough, or sprinkle cheese in between if you want a savory waffle. Then I wouldn't serve fruit and whipped cream with it.
