Invited by the Tourist Information Hamburg to come and discover this city, you can't say no to that! Although Germany is really right on our border, I have been there very little. So packed a suitcase, refueled the car and on to Hamburg together with Luuk van Luukskitchen. I already knew that it was a port city, but otherwise I had never been there. As you are used to from me, I always share a local recipe, and this time it will be “Sweet Frantzbrötchen from Hamburg”. But first I would like to take you on our press tour. Hamburg harbor city
The journey to this rather large city went without any problems. It's about five hours away, and with some music and good company the time flies by. (The fact that you can drive very fast in Germany also makes a difference…) When we arrived at our hotel, we drove the car neatly into the parking garage. We stayed in it for two nights Scandic Emporio Hotel. A modern hotel with all amenities such as a sauna, nice gym, executive lounge, bar and spacious room with mega high ceiling. That is only if you stay on the 8th floor.
On the road through the city
On the days that followed, we were guided through the city with various employees of the tourist office. Our program started with it Burg coffee museum. Due to its favorable location and its port, Hamburg has a huge import-export activity. Our guide told us that the city likes to “think ahead” and not necessarily look to the past. Various old buildings that had been destroyed by a major fire have therefore been flattened without mercy. The entire city is full of high-rise buildings, new construction and many neighborhoods that are in full development.
Foodie Valhalla
If you have to visit something as a Foodie, it is the Isemarkt. This runs for a few kilometers under the railway line and is therefore partly covered. Walk with your mouth watering past all the stands with meat, sandwiches, olives, mushrooms, pies, vegetables, fruit, but also nice trinkets. Here you can keep yourself busy for a while. We then move to the metro by subway Grosse Ebstraße, a long street along the Elbe, where you should definitely visit the fish market. Along the water you can see all the taps and activity on the water endlessly.
Lunch and dinner
We have been spoiled at various restaurants of which I would like to highlight a few. So had lunch at it Fishery harbor restaurant. A classic fish restaurant where you can enjoy a perfectly prepared fish with a fantastic view. Dinner at Heimatjuwel was also very surprising. Chef Marcel knows how to spoil you with beautiful snacks and a nice bubble. If you want to do a nice beer tasting afterwards, jump in the taxi to The Baby Goat, if you are more into cocktails then you should definitely pay a visit to the rooftop bar “Puzzle bar".
On the last day we found ourselves in it Choco sum tell everything about the route that the cocoa bean takes to make our own chocolate bar. With a delicious soup as a warm-up Deichjungs in the city. All in all, this city is full of nice tents, food halls, restaurants and sights.
