Homemade grape juice from own grapes

Homemade grape juice

This year we have a huge amount of grapes! They are also super sweet this year and the grapes are quite large. It's a shame to let the birds eat them away. (They secretly do this anyway). And what do you make with this amount of grapes: homemade grape juice. This is actually not that difficult at all. All you need is time and patience, and a few large pans! A nice job for the weekend. There are special steam pans for this and all kinds of attributes, but the way I do it, it also works fine with just using the pans and a large colander.

And this is how you make it:

So cut a bucket or two full of trusses from the garden. Wash the grapes and then grab a pan. Carefully separate the grapes from the bunch and place them in the pan. Throw away the shriveled and moldy grapes. You can leave the seeds.
-When the pan is almost full, put it on the fire, a low heat. Put the lid on the pan and now you are going to heat the grapes. You can stir occasionally and you will see that they slowly “deflate”. This process can take 2 or 3 hours before the grapes have released all their juice.

Sieving the Homemade grape juice

Homemade grape juice

-If, in your opinion, the grapes have released their juice before all of them, you will see the empty skins floating in the pan and there is a kind of dregs in the juice. Now you're going to sift this out. Take another large pan and place a large colander on it. Carefully empty the saucepan with juice and drain into the colander and let it drain well. Especially don't squeeze with a spoon or squeeze just let it leak quietly. Discard the sheets from the colander and place in an old tea towel. Now pour the juice over it again, now you really sieve away the last remnants.

- Now put the saucepan on the fire again and bring to the boil, if you want it a bit sweeter you can add some sugar. Let it boil for a while.
-Now take the bottles or jars with you, they must be sterile, you can do this by boiling them in soda or washing them in the dishwasher at a high temperature.

Then pour the juice into the bottles or jars using a funnel and screw the cap on tightly. Now turn them upside down and let them stand for a while. This way they create a vacuum and you can test this by turning them back and pressing the lid, it can no longer move.

When you're done:

You can store the bottles in a dry and dark place, after opening they have a limited shelf life in the refrigerator. It is important to mention that proper storage of the grape juice is essential to maintain its quality and taste. Make sure the bottles are tightly closed to prevent oxidation. In addition, it is wise to store them upright to prevent pressure on the cork. A cool, constant temperature is also desirable, as temperatures that are too high can adversely affect the taste and shelf life of the juice.

When opening a bottle, it is advisable to consume the juice within a few days to maintain freshness. Placing the opened bottle in the refrigerator can help extend its shelf life and taste, but it is important to remember that quality may deteriorate over time.

Here you will find the complete recipe with all the ingredients you need. I hope you have fun preparing the dish below.
